Planned Parenthood Affiliates Of California Endorses Yes On Prop 3
SACRAMENTO, CA — Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) today announced their endorsement of Proposition 3, the California Children’s Education and Health Care Protection Act, a measure that protects Medi-Cal and reproductive health care access by ensuring the wealthiest Californians pay their fair share – all without raising taxes on anyone.
“Protecting our schools and our health care go hand in hand, which is why voting Yes on Prop 3 is so important this November,” said Jodi Hicks, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, who signed the official ballot argument for Yes on Prop 3. “It generates about ten billion dollars a year for our schools, and that frees up billions more for Medi-Cal - which over 80% of Planned Parenthood patients in California rely on to access essential health care. All Prop 3 does is keep the current tax rate on the wealthiest 2% of Californians that's been in place for nearly 15 years. If we let it expire, millionaires and billionaires get a tax cut – and our kids and our families take the hit.”
Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California’s endorsement comes as Planned Parenthood clinics across California are already absorbing the impacts of federal cuts. Last July, President Trump signed a law cutting nearly a trillion dollars from Medicaid nationally, putting coverage for more than 3 million Californians at risk. A defund provision aimed squarely at Planned Parenthood has already forced the closure of five health clinics – more than in any other state – even as roughly 80% of its patients rely on Medi-Cal.
Prop 3 is not a new tax. It keeps in place the income tax rates on the wealthiest 2% of Californians first approved by voters in 2012, raising roughly $10 billion each year. If those rates are allowed to expire, millionaires and billionaires get a tax cut at the expense of our classrooms, clinics, and communities.
Prop 3 goes before California voters on the November 2026 statewide ballot.
